Answer: Pursuant to the New Mexico Statutes, any New Mexico resident over the age of fourteen years may petition the district court in the district where he or she resides for a legal name change.

Answer: Yes. When filing the petition for a name change in New Mexico, the petitioner must also file proof of publication.
